~The Project~
This building will provide a place for building, staging, and producing the shows. Being a visible and physical presence in the community, The Project will provide opportunities for local playwrights, directors, actors, musicians, designers, teachers and technicians..
Opportunities for local playwrights will be numerous and on-going. Readings of new works will be held at the project. From the readings, works will be chosen for work-shopping and eventual production in the venue. Once produced, the works will be eligible for consideration by Project Publishing. Project Publishing, as a branch of SWRTP, will make the works available and market them to production companies, university bookstores, and other interested populations across the country.
The Project will provide multiple and varied live theatre performances on a continual basis to the immediate community. These shows will be a mixture of classic and contemporary works from all genres, alternating with the new works of local playwrights. A selection of the works produced in The Project will be chosen to become part of the touring repertory of The Company.
Performances at The Project will include Children’s shows as well as the ‘main stage’ events. Some of these shows will be in the form of adults performing for children and some will be children performing after-school programs. After school, theatre based workshops in many aspects of theatre production will be offered to children grades K-12 which will culminate in regular performances.
Administrative offices for all three branches of SWRTP will be located at The Project. This will be the hub for all of the activities that The Project, The Company, and Project Publishing are involved in. Tours for The Company will be scheduled from here. Education outreach programs locally and rurally will be organized from here. Project Publishing will be located in this space.
Activities for The Project include, but are not limited to:
